Some rules that I would put in based on the class that I had today:
- If you are going to a class where you will be moving a lot (Zumba, aerobics, kick-boxing, etc.), do not stand directly next to anyone else. Give yourself and everyone else plenty of leg/arm room so no one gets kicked/punched in the face.
- I understand that it would be silly to shower right before going to work out, but do not come to class already in desperate need of a shower. No one wants to smell that.
- I have no problem with people who can’t keep up with moves/steps. Some people are more coordinated than others and that’s okay; the fact that they got their butt to the gym is good enough. But if your in something like a Zumba class and you’re having problems keeping up at least move in the same direction as the rest of the class. If the class is doing a step that goes forward, you go forward. If the class is doing a step that goes to the left, you go to the left. Prevent traffic jams.
- If you leave your spot to get a drink or wipe your face or something, wait for an appropriate time to go back to your spot. This is not a mosh pit, you can’t push your way in as everyone else is moving around.
If you can believe it, these “rules” were all broken by one woman who was standing in front of me (after I moved back because she decided to stand right next to me) at Zumba. She didn’t move. The whole time. I made the most of my situation and still got a good work out, but next week I’m moving to the other side of the studio.
That aside, this was my first free Saturday morning (and therefore my first Zumba class) in like two months. It felt great :D
